Japanese Kitchen Sasanoki
We offer hard-core everyday Japanese cooking for takeaways in Wanaka: very popular in day-to-day life in Japan. It’s fresh, casual and inexpensive, all prepared and served by our expertly trained Japanese chefs.
Japanese life expectancy
The Japanese have the longest life expectancy in the world, averaging 86.44 years for women and 79.59 years for men. Diet is obviously related to health, so there can be no doubt that the food the Japanese have eaten over the years is an important factor promoting their long life spans. The traditional Japanese diet, part of the nation's culture since ancient times, is attracting more and more favourable attention abroad, especially in the West as well as down under. Eating Japanese style is good for the health and provides access to many nutrients that retard cell aging. Thanks to their diet, the Japanese have slowed the aging process more than any other people on earth. Many appear remarkably young for their age, however old they may be.
Obesity rates
Japan has the lowest obesity rates in the developed world. The people are living longer than everybody else; they are not just living longest, they are living healthiest thanks to the Japanese food.
Eat healthy and stay happy with Sasanoki!

DONBURI
Donburi, or don in short, which literally means “bowl”, is Japanese rice bowl dish consisting of ingredients served over rice. The beauty of donburi lies in the combination of rice steeped in simmering broth or sauce and the flavour of the toppings.
Rice is a good carbohydrate; Western cuisine uses bread or pastry and we use rice. You will realise how healthy rice is, being low in fat, high in protein, low-calorie and energy-boosting. Be encouraged to eat more rice; it is rich in fibre, which slows absorption and fills you up before you take in too many calories.
Teriyaki Chicken Don $10.50
Your favourite teriyaki chicken with our original teriyaki sauce over rice.
This one tastes good even if it’s cold and is our ichiban selling dish.
Oyako Don $10.50
The name “mother and child (oyako)” of this popular donburi dish comes
from its two main ingredients, chicken and egg.
(Pork or Chicken) Katsu Don $12.50
Crumbed pork or chicken cutlet, egg and onions simmered in dashi-soy and served on rice.
Choice is yours.
Teriyaki Salmon Don $14.00
NZ salmon grilled and flavoured with teriyaki sauce on plain rice. Fish is good for you and NZ salmon tastes excellent - this is the comment from a lot of Japanese who consume more than three times as much fish per capita than the British. They know what they are talking about.
Sashimi Salmon Don $12.50
Fresh salmon sashimi on top of sushi rice. Because the flavour of NZ salmon is so good,
a lot of Japanese tourists consider this as a dish not to be missed while in New Zealand.
Sashimi Chirashi Don $12.50
Commonly called Chirashi (scattered), this is another style of sushi with a variety of
fresh sashimi such as tuna & salmon over a bed of sushi rice.
Teriyaki Tofu Don $12.50
Among tofu’s merits is its high-protein content. Whether you are a vegetarian or not,
this tofu dish deep fried and cooked with teriyaki sauce will keep you healthy and satisfied.
Tempura Don $12.50
Traditional Japanese tempura (seafood & vegetables in a delicious light batter)
served on a bed of rice.

NOODLES
We are noodle maniacs.

Here in Wanaka, we would like to bring the world of Udon and Ramen noodles to you.
UDON
Try the beauty of Japanese udon noodles
which is thick with a wonderful texture.

Yasai Vegetable Udon $10.00
Healthy Japanese cuisine, simple and tasty,
bringing out the real flavour of ingredients.
Salad Udon $10.00
Fresh salad vegetable with udon served with a tasty dressing.
Another example of very healthy Japanese cuisine served cold.
RAMEN
Originally from China, it is unclear when Ramen was introduced to Japan, but it is definitely one of the Japanese food cultural icons. In Japan, more than 200,000 ramen shops dot the entire country and my daughter never spent a day without a bowl of ramen during her recent trip to Japan. Mind you she is a Kiwi!
We have two styles in soup; miso and shoyu (soy sauce) and the toppings are your choice.
Firstly choose which soup style you would like; either miso or shoyu.
Secondly think about what you want to have with it.
Thirdly enjoy your Ramen!
(Miso or Shoyu) Standard Ramen $10.50
With every bit of goodies of Ramen. What a bargain!
(Miso or Shoyu) Yasai Vegetable Ramen $11.50
For somebody who wants vegetable toppings.
(Miso or Shoyu) Chāshū Pork Ramen $12.50
Ramen with tenderly cooked slices of pork.
(Shoyu) Chicken Ramen $12.50
By the popular request from the local customers is the Ramen with JFC.

NIPPON NO CURRY
Japanese curry rocks!! How?
Follow the description by an American journalist based in New York.
“Japanese curry is food in its most perfect form. If you disagree, it is only because you have not eaten it.
I love Japan’s curry in the same way that a heroin addict loves shooting up.
The only significant difference between the two is that eventually, if you stop doing heroin long enough, you are no longer addicted to it. Japanese curry addiction does not leave you even when you move back home. You just spend your days wishing you could eat it again,
saving your money so you can fly back to Tokyo and eat more.”
This is just what we have at Sasanoki, which is a thick medium-hot curry served with short grain white rice called Japonica,
but not as hot as Indian or Thai - simply good Japanese style.
Katsu Curry ‘n’ Rice $13.80
Your choice on crumbed pork, chicken or beef.
Real good stuff, Bro!
Vegetable Curry ‘n’ Rice $10.50
It’s the simple Japanese curry, mate!
Rich, satisfying with full of flavour.

Edamame $5.50
Enjoy the pure natural taste of soybeans in the pod. Bruno’s favourite nibbles or side dish
to go along with cold beer or sake, or by themselves.
Seaweed Salad $7.00
Seaweed is not just a weed!
Various forms of seaweed are good source of vitamin C, fibre, potassium and iodine.
This salad showcases the healthy and tasty aspect of Japanese cuisine,
served with yuzu dressing.
Tofu Salad $7.00
A super-healthy combination of tofu, low-calorie, low-fat, high-protein &
fresh vegetables, high in fibre, vitamins and minerals.
It tastes good and feels good.
Tori no karaage $5.50
